Media Ecology Plan

Here are my plan for my media ecology question

Explain what you think is the most significant change in the media in recent years

  • Distribution and Audience

  • Media Institution are using AI to enhance content distribution through learning audience behaviour where this algorithm by AI will generate a personalised recommendation for audience

  • This increases efficiency by optimising that users are more likely to consume the contents as the algorithm learns from audience data where the algorithm is making sure that the content recommendation is relevant to the audience. AI plays a pivotal role on AI can serve and engage media with consumers

  • Netflix uses AI to create personalised content suggestion for audience hence this lead to audience are staying in using the services as the content is always relevant to them to be consumed

  • (Content Bubbles) By recommendation system for distribution this can lead to limited exposure to diverse point of view and preventing audiences from new ideas and ideologies

  • During the Hamas vs Israel conflict the media brings this conflict which results in the audience picking a side between Israel and Palestine. If audience sided with Palestine and if they see pro Israel content, audience are likely to reject the idea of the content itself and vice versa

  • Film Production

  • AI has help movie director to gain ideas for their movie which allows them to expand their movie storyline even further which makes movies storyline

  • Helps director by giving them script for their movies

  • Gives ideas for storyboard and allows AI to generate a storyboard by translating based on the script; this may help the movie director to be efficient with their time management.

  • Directors will be less creative due to them only depending on AI instead of their own creativity. This may impact the audience by getting bored with AI generated movies and ideas.

  • Increase in animated movie by using CGI to increase the quality of the animation example of a movie “The Lion King” 2019

  • Marketing trends and distribution strategy are assisted by AI by analysing market trends and audiences behaviour.

  • Automation and Social Implications

  • Automation content generation can be used to manipulate public opinion, produce deep fake videos, or generate fake reviews and opinions. These instances of media manipulation can have far-reaching societal consequences such as impacting public trust issues in media and institutions.

  • This has created a mythic on shaping how society consumes information and engages with the media. AI algorithms influence what people see, read, and watch, which can have a profound impact on shaping public opinion and cultural norms.

  • During the pre election of Indonesian Presidential the candidate Ganjar has always been seen in a positive way and negative way at the same time as AI can manipulate the interviews of each presidential candidate and shape it to look unpleasing to audiences

Storyboard and Screenplay

This blogpost contains the storyboard and screenplay for our MV we also add annotations on the screenplay to make it easier for us to read and now which scene are we on.The screenplay was made by (Theo) and the storyboard was made by me (Satria)

Reflection: This blogpost that provides us with information through all the scene for our MV, with a storyboards and screenplay allow me and my team to execute the shoot properly according to scene we plan and decided to match the vibe and theme of certain scenes. To add the storyboards also tells us the camera angle and movement we are using for the scene. The screenplay allows us to understand better what are going to do in this certain part of the scene and in much more detail with words on the other hand the storyboard only shows us a picture what will the scene look like

Timeline development

We have lots of discussion for this screen play and storyboard, we decided to finish the screenplay first because it will help us to implement our storyboard and reduce drawing mistakes that will confuse us out. We annotate part of the lyrics of the song such as the intro and the pre chorus, with annotation we are able to have an idea in mind what will we do in this scene. It will make the process of shooting a lot easier.

Mood Board

This blogpost contains a post of my team moodboard about our music video we all shared our job equally to create this mood board.

Reflection: This mood board really helped me and my teams to focus on one theme that we are going to execute in our music video. This will be beneficial to reduce the amount of different thoughts and opinions of themes that we discussed. Lastly this mood board will give us a straight point and ideas for scenes in the music video.

Mini Project - Lip Sync Video

In this blogpost we are assigned a task to create a lip sync video it will help us learn and gain more expereince to make the real music video project in the future

Expectation

-Shy

-Goofy

-Weird

How do i feel?

-Nervous

-Excited in the same time

Reflection

In the end we eventually finished our work with a satisfying result i think so we may finished and ended up above our expectation and I am really happy to see the result even though its not a professional music video with good quality at least we can learn things for our future upcoming music video project and gaining experience. We might walk into some trouble in the music video by deciding who will do which part of the music video and beside that we also have a problem to sync our lip sync with the real song. So the solutions that we did are we count on the beat of the song to sync the tempo and we memories the song and for the verse distribution we did rock scissor paper to decide which one of us do which part.

My role in this music video are both the actor and the camera man I did both jobs since my friend Theo is recording his part of the music video and I am the one in charge for the camera. There are so many skill that I gain and developed through out this mini project such as learning how to lip sync and act to follow the lyrics of the song, I also learn how to hold the camera in certain specific angle and last but not least I also learn what is it like to be a part of the actor in the music video and yes I prefer to be the person being behind the scene

Post Modernism - She Hulk

Post Modernism is a rejection of modernism and Baudrillard opinion of post modernism is everything is a copy of a copy and he also believe that we also have reality and heightened reality, reality is when the media is actually real without any representation on the other hand heightened reality is adapted media products with are more intense but with clear links to reality and we are able to distinguish between what is real and what is not real. She Hulk is a series that is launched in Disney Hot star at August 18 2022. I believe this series contains lots of post modernism feature such as fragmented narrative, homage and self reflexivity. A fragmented narrative in postmodernism refers to a storytelling technique where the narrative structure is intentionally disjointed, nonlinear, or lacking a traditional, linear progression. An example of fragmented narrative that the series has is where the character keeps thinking back about before she turned into she hulk. Second feature that this series is homage a respectful tribute to a previous work or creator, often through imitation or reference. An example of this is in the whole series we are shown and the character is being represent in a good by meaning she is strong, massive and have the same superpower as the Hulk. Last but no least the final feature from post modernism that this series include is self reflexivity, it is a feature when the character has an awareness that they are just a character inside a movie or a series, example of this feature is when She Hulk pops from the Disney Hot star interface punching the screen and realise that she is in a series.

Jean Baudrillard is a French theorist that have the opinion and thoughts about the theory Post Modernism and according to him Post Modernism in general is everything is a copy of a copy and nothing is original as the media is too saturated and now we cannot differentiate which are real which are not. Hyperreality is the distinction between reality and simulation becomes blurred or even non-existent. In a hyperreal environment, simulations or representations of reality become more real or significant than the reality they are meant to represent and replacing reality by adding symbols or icon to replace it this can be defined as simulacra, and example of a simulacra is in a movie is when you shoot a person with a gun their blood does not splatter out instead the person will still bleed with a blood draining all over their body instead of bursting out. Reality can be defined as a real representation of view in the media which are shown to the audience. An example of reality in a movie could be when a person is throwing a grenade they pull the pin with their hand instead in hyperreality they pull the grenade pin with their teeth. In a hyperreality sometimes it is hard to determine which is real and which are not real, with the technology now days makes it more difficult for us to differentiate which are real which are simulated. An example of elements that could be hard to differentiate is in the movie John Wick there is a scene in his backyard where there are his dog and him, there is a dog poop in the background that is simulated. With this happening

-Explain the Heightened reality
-Effect on audience prefer
-Topic sentence does not connected to the main points

A level Media Studies: Comp 3 Music Video

This is for the magazine (Component 1, but it is still useful)

The demographic for my media product are females in the late teens and twenties.

In terms of psychographics, this audience likes fast-fixes of celebrity gossip but also want to delve beneath the superficial filters and representation of the Instagram generation. They want something more considered. When it comes to trends, they poke fun at the ridiculous crazes. My target audience would be the fun seekers and armchair rebels of the Youth Facts IAOs: work hard, play hard and have attitude. VALS (Value Life Styles) classification would place audience on the outer-direct category: they are belongers and achievers.

There is also the secondary audience of males and a similar age range to the sceptical main audience.

Since my target audience have a natural and healthy suspicion of the world, they are not victims of “fake news”. Therefore, humour and irony will be a key element of my branding and representation. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs suggests that “lack of prejudice” is part of the self-actualisation classification of consumption. This freedom of thought will be an important motif in my narrative.

I would like several of my images to shock the audience and take advantage of the hypodermic needle model of conveying the message. This should “attract” their attention in line with the AIDA principle.

There will certainly be disequilibrium throughout the narrative. I will use enigma codes and sustain the audience’s “interest” (AIDA) until the final reveal and the equilibrium is restored.

I think it is important to use celebrity endorsement. This one of Gillian Dyer’s Lines of Appeal. This idea also utilises the Two-Step Flow Theory so my message mediated through my fake celebrity.

Representation is incredibly important. I will use well-known signifiers that will immediate connote excitement and glamour. My actor will pose appropriately, directly gazing at the audience to grab their attention. The mise-en-scene will reinforce the sense of fun. Even some angles will be tilted to create that playful tone.

This Statement of Intent is intentionally vague so it can apply to many different briefs. However, you would need to be more specific and focus your ideas on your chosen brief. There are so many other theories and theorists that can be used, so please do not limit your own Statement to the ones in this example.

Research

Here is the research of my music video

WetSuit - The Vaccines - Indie

The music video is targerting audience who are at a young age, youth especially those who are attending the event. I dislike the concept of the music video, because its not really engaging and mostly engage people who are at the event back then, for those who are not at the event will no really feel engage or have a full experience of the music video. This music video has images from people who are at the event. I like the concept that they use a vintage filter to make the music video feel nostalgic and supports the youth category for the target audience. Stereotypes that are used are alcohol (beer) to represent youngsters.

R U Mine? - Arctic Monkeys

The music video is targeting audience around the age of 12-20. It uses stereotypes of a carpool karaoke that represents youngsters cause this activity often be done by youngsters while with their friends in the car blasting out music and singing to it together. I like how they apply a black and white filter to emphasise nostalgia to sadness and it really connects with the song title which is "R U Mine?". What I dislike about this music video it is a bit boring to watch because all you see is people singing in a car and thats all. In conclusion teenagers will enjoy this music video due to the stereotypes.

Polyphia - Playing God

This music video are targeting people who are a music instrument enthusiast such as guitar, drum, bass. The music video contains no vocal which means its only pure music instrument. The music video have a target audience around the age of 18-30, because the age doesn't really matter as long as they have a interest in musical instrument.

Ocean & Engines - Niki

Ocean & Engines is a song that was written by NIKI and was published at 8th July 2022. This music was directed by Isaac Ravhishankara

This music video has a concept of a sad vibe by a couple being left and broke up. The color of this music video is dim, to support the lyrics and meaning of music video which is a sad and a break up vibe. In the begining of the music video have and idea of flashback in every scene of the music video to compare before the couple broke up and after. What I like about this music video is that the lyrics really matches the music video goes in a good story line. What I dislike is some of the camera shots that are taken such as the time when the camera is behind the car which doesn't really allows us to show the reaction of her face after the break up.

Understand - Keshi

This song was written by Keshi an American Vietnamese singer and songwriter. This song was published at March 25 2022. The director of this music video is Pennacky.

Media Language

This song it is really a song for those people who are in their relationship state with their couple and really showing what couples are usually doing and all of a sudden they broke up and this song relates a lot to those poeple who just broke up with their couple and really misses he or she. The music video started using an establishing shot showing the view of the city from the apartment that he lives in. Then the shot move to him which is Keshi it self the songwriter and singer is writing a song while playing his guitar and finding the good chords to create the song. It seems like the song that he is writing in the note is the song that we are hearing now in the music video which is "UNDERSTAND". The shot then change to a zoom up to his eyes which is trying to tell the audience that this is from his perspective. An establishing shot was taken from the ocean showing an empty ocean with just wave connoting he is lost and empty. After that shot was taken all the shot are shots that really leaning towards memories of couples such as two pairs of shoe side by side, two toothbrush showing that they used to live together but now they broke up which means his alone now, two straws in the cup which they usually drink together as couple, two pigeon flyign which represents each one of them, there are shot of two couples sitting and enjoying their time together, and last the music video also put shots of places that a couple would often spend time and do quality time together. At the end of the music video there is a man that stood up infront of a train that looks like its leaving and him standing alone.

Representation

This music video has so many representation such as the shot that was taken where there are two toothbrush which represent that there are two people which are usually couples and two shoes which also represents that one of them belong to someone else. At the beginning of the music video they place a empty ocean shot after a close up shot of his eyes which represent he is lost and empty and they put the color blue there which connotes trust but the person broke his trust and put empty oceans with the filter blue in it.

Audience

This music video is really aiming audience that are looking for songs that will really bring the mood of sadness and when a person really misses someone. The age range of this music video are audience among the age of teenagers who are already experiencing a relationship which are around the age of 18-25.

Industry

The editing and filming of this music video is very simple due to less cgi that is needed to be used for this music video, photos that are taken which represent the connotation of this music video are used by just placing it in the music video. The budget of this music video is really low and i don't think so they need to purchase and hire a lot of equipment of technology to produce this music video due to the materials that are used are materials that we have on daily basis.

Reflection: By doing this research of music video helps me to understand deeper what will a music video look like and what elements are inserted to create one. Moreover this research creates an image in my mind what scene ideas I can put in my future music video. A proper research also allow me to expand my knowledge of music video in general and learning it layer by layer.
