Critical Self Reflection

Down below is my critical self reflection which answers these 3 following questions 

How do your products represents social groups/issue?

How do your products engage with audiences?

How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?



1.Our media are talking about Eating disorder which can really make a really big negative impact people nowadays, our target audience goes from the age of 13-25 we think that people around this age are the most common to get eating disorder and by creating this documentary would be very useful for them and being targeted for this documentary EDs are frequently associated with a number of stereotypes in the media, such as the idea that persons with EDs are exclusively thin and feeble. However, EDs encompass a wide range of conditions beyond anorexia, EDs are also frequently disregarded, for example, in the modelling and film industries where the advertising of unattainable beauty fosters the idea among viewers that they must take drastic measures to acquire beauty. This could happen to both female and male but it mostly happen to the female's. Our documentary series represents ED from various different perspective of each people with different roles and jobs example are models, therapist, and sport enthusiast. By creating this documentary series we hope that this will give a positive impact to those people who are experiencing eating disorder especially for those who are in our target range audience, beside that we hope to receive more results that are very positive in the interne.


2.Our product engage with audience by targeting those people who are being affected by eating disorder within the our age range. One of our way attract people with eating disorder is by our documentary title "Diet or Die" with this title in my opinion will really emphasise them to click on the documentary series which makes them interesting what content will be represent in the series. Our target audience are the Gen Z with the age range between 13-25 years old as they are more likely to be affected by eating disorder. Beside that nowdays media entertaiment are leading them to a negative effect for example following the media industry of kpop especially for females who are very into beauty standards they are willing to do anything to make them look like what is being represented in the media. In our documentary series we include elements such as dramatic lighting with a dramatic lighting the vibe and color of the documentary will be more to a gloomy side which makes it more interesting and increase the audience intrest in our documentary series second we out tense music, with tense music playing in the background makes the series representation to be more intense and build up and automaticly will make a picture in mind of the audience that this series is going to be a series that is actually serious and not a series that will represent comedy or parody and will actually state real information that are going to be useful for the audience. Lastly we use fast phase editing which allow our series to have more intensity and supports the theme of our documentary. Our documentary series will be a series that will be easy to understand and consume by the audience.The Bulmer and Katz's Uses and Gratification Theory investigates the various motives behind our search for certain media goods to gratify our needs and desires. Our media product intends to target surveillance where audiences could learn more about the outside world and problems that are emerging in today's youth and identify ways to raise awareness so that any potential victims do not get caught up in the confusing problem. Our thumbnail seeks to evoke mystery with its "Diet or Die" slogan, which could allude to hermeneutic code (5 Narrative codes). 


3.As I took inspiration from crime documentaries like The Rain Coat Killer, where the interview scenes were shot in a fixed position with a medium shot combined with a dark tone, the research really informs our documentary in terms of defining the health documentary by following to the general conventions. By demonstrating the awareness of well-known social media with billions of users on what happens if you type eating disorder, the Health documentary helps audience understand how serious is eating disorder in this social community. This is done by studying how to open a documentary, general mental illness problem, thumbnails, and participants' experiences.  Additionally, adding certain warnings encouraging people with eating disorders to consult reliable resources demonstrates the importance of the subject we address throughout the programme. The research also aids in improving my understanding of what the target audience might anticipate from general or health-related films. The audience would relate to our health documentary more if we use cultural references like Korean beauty standards.
