Critical Self Reflection

Introduction

Around 2 months ago the beginning of term 2 we are assigned to create a radio show. For this project i chose Maxi, Me, Theo, and Timo for my group to create this radio project after i chose my group members we did a research about radio shows that are popular. We use RegentsX FM for our radio name. After creating a name for our radio we then recorded, edited, created logos, jingles, chose songs, and many more with all this our radio project ended up in a 15mins radio show.

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

Our radio show RegentsX FM focuses towards high school students in Bali but to be specific in mainly focusses students from our school Regents School Bali. We said this, because most of our recording segments of our radio show are related to events that happen in our school beside that it also has a segment that contain gossips from our school. This radio show purpose is to entertained and listen at your leisure time. This radio show is also for teenagers outside our school that likes to hear what is happening in other schools. Songs that are included in this radio show which are the Arctic Monkeys(Do i Wanna Know) are popular among teenagers and can be enjoyed by them.

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

Our radio show that we recorded at school focusses on high school students appeals to target demographic teenage students (aged 15-18) we say this, because our radio show has a segment that has gossips and songs that are popular among them. Beside that gossips that are in our radio segment are gossips that are for teenagers people that are not around that age can have difficulties understanding the gossips that are in our radio segment. Our radio show counts as a proximity, because it is meant for people that are in Indonesia.

Our Radio show RegentsX FM is very suitable to play after having a hard day at school for students that just went home from school, This radio show is very suitable to play anytime but we suggested to play this at the afternoon( after going home from school or having a leisure time at home)

Our radio show hosts are two male 16 years old with this can represent more male audiences specifically in Indonesia and in our school, this is because by being a male audience feel that they are being represented. However with this we cannot get all of the target audience because other representation are not represented in this radio show which leads to less female audience and male with different ages than us.

How did your production skill develop throughout this project?

After all the hard work and we finally finished creating this radio project i learned a lot of things one of the things are creating jingles that match our radio theme. Beside that i also learned how to use a radio equipments. There are many softwares and applications that i tried to create jingles to match and make a perfect for the radio segment I used Bandlab and created a jingles there with lots of trial and error. Last but not least I learned to trust each others at their own job and work as a team.

How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware, and online - into this project?

To create this radio show we used a lot of software, and hardware to create this radio show. For the software we used an app called Discord and we enter a call there than we record using our own hardware equipment which are Scarlett 2i2 Studio Mic and BM800 Condenser Microphone. Through out the recording we used OBS to record our online conversation. After finished with the recording we transport the file into a google drive that is sent to Maxi to edit our podcast recording using Adobe Premier Pro. When he started the editing process he takes the file of the jingle that was made by me using an application called Bandlab a free online software beat maker and transported all the jingles that are chosen into a google drive by using an iPhone 11 and MacBook Pro 2018. Last but not least our radio show logo was made by Theo using a software called Adobe Photoshop. Thanks to all this new and amazing technology allows us to create this radio show much better.

Conclusion

Overall this radio project has taught me a lot how to work on target audience and to work as a team and trusting each other on their own given job. Maxi and Timo as our radio host which are really connected with lots of chemistry of each other created a great vibe on our radio recording to make it entertaining. Theo as our logo designer which has an Art and Design background really worked on that logo. Last but not least me chosen as a jingle creator really shows me that they trust on my music background to work on the jingles. As a result I'm happy to work with them and created a radio show which we are very satisfied with.

Radio Show Editing Process

By:Maxi

Being the editor of this project meant that I was in charge of the responsibility of putting all clips, and sounds together and editing them in a way that made transitions seamless, professional, and made sure that sound quality was top-notch. To do this, I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2020 to edit the radio show together. Firstly, I downloaded all the songs that we were going to use, downloaded the recordings Timo and I had created, and downloaded the jingle Satria had made. After which, I got them all into my timeline and arranged them to make radio show seem as realistic as possible. I also cut out portions of recordings that didn't seem to fit, as well as create smooth transitions from our voice recordings into the song that was going to play next. This was done using the Keyframes audio feature that Premiere Pro possesses. This allowed for a professional and well made sounding production.

In the image attached above, we can see a screenshot of my editing page in Adobe Premiere Pro. On the bottom left we can see my media library, and on the bottom right we can see my timeline. All in all, I believe using premiere pro allowed me to streamline the process of editing and

Radio room

Here in this my group member Maxi wrote a report about the radio room

In todays lesson, we were given a tour and explanation on how to use our schools podcast room, that we can use for the recording of our Radio Show. We learnt the differences between different type's of inputs and cables like Headphone jacks, all combo jacks, etc. We learnt about different types of microphones specifically condenser and dynamic microphones that use XLR cables to connect to a Audio Mixer or interface, which then connects to a computer, phone, etc. Condenser microphones require Phantom Power that can be received from audio interfaces or mixers. Condenser microphones detect and receive audio inputs from all sides of the microphones while dynamic microphones detect audio from only 1 side of the microphone, usually the top.

Here in this video Mr.Wayan showed us how to use the podcast or radio equipment

Logo Research

Station Logos | Digital radio, Radio design, Radio

LOGO RESEARCH

UCB

What I like about this logo is all the letters are capitalized and bolded with this you can see the radio logo clearly. What I dislike about this logo is that all the letters have the same font size and the same font.

Heart Extra

What I like about this logo is the letter "a" they replace it with a heart shape and they tilt the shape but what I dislike is the logo name has a lot of letters

Radio X

Radio X has a simple logo with a different font size letter but the font for the "radio" is too small

Capital XTRA

This logo has a good 3d design with all capitalized letters but there are too many colors in the logo which makes it looks complicated.

TalkSPORT

They added a football there to show that this radio show mainly focuses on sports but the color yellow and black doesn't really match to make a good logo

Magic

It uses a unique font with a calligraphy "g" but what I dislike is that it uses a color that is boring to look at

Kiss

It uses all capitalized letters with simple fonts which makes it easier to read it but it has a lot of words at the bottom which doesn't suit reading when you are reading a logo

Absolute Radio

It has a simple font which is good but the writing has a much bigger font which makes it focus more on the name rather than the logo

BFBS radio

The logo has a good idea to put a recording sign but it uses a bad font

Smooth Extra

It has a good color gradient tone but the font that is used is too basic

Capital FM

I like the color contrast that is used and the capitalized logo makes it more eye-catching but I dislike the FM being as big as the CAPITAL font size this makes the logo look bulky

CLASSIC FM

I like that the logo uses a simple font

LBC

I like that each letter has different boxes with different colors

In the end we created this logo because it looks simple and it has different font sizes to make it look unique, beside that we put a radio mic embedded in the letter "R" to make it look that it is a radio show
